A Typical Moderate Grade of Walk

This walk is in the SIERRA OLTA Nature Park. This area is situated a little over a mile from the coast and offers memorable views of Calpeīs Peņon de Ifach, the coastline, the impressive Sierra Bernia and the local terraced farmland.

The walk begins high in the Nature Park taking a steadily ascending track through pine woods. At a small reservoir a path climbs more steeply between old olive and almond terraces to reach another track just below some rugged cliffs. This track winds around following the line of cliffs until it gives way to a very narrow path, which curves round the bases of some lofty pinnacles as it climbs, gradually steepening, into a tree lined valley, which in turn gives way to a steep gully.

Ascending the gully the path meanders itīs way to a large plateau; crossing this needs some easy rock hopping as a faint path leads to a ruined farm with a dry well.

The narrow rocky path continues upwards through a spinney of young pines and then across the rugged mountainside until the ridge line is achieved. From this point it is a gradual ascent across razor limestone to the northern summit.

The descent route is initially over similar terrain. Further downhill the path slips through an attractive forest area before joining a steeper eroded section leading directly to a mountain trail. This trail, after passing the site of a landslide, leads to an attractively restored chapel and a mountain water pump for thirsty travellers. From this point it is only a short walk to the start point.
