Let SPANISH GUIDED WALKS lead you through the valleys, mountains and coast of the beautiful northern Costa Blanca. We organise everything for your holiday except the flight. Bring your boots and we will show you a Spain that you didn’t know existed.

If you are visiting the Costa Blanca and....
You have already  arranged your accommodation and car and....
You are keen to do some walking but do not relish going by yourselves
Why not contact us, tell us your ideas so that, together, we can make them happen on foot.

We offer "small and personal". Our groups are no more than 8 people, with walks tailormade to suit abilities and seasonal changes. Our walking holidays are perfect for individuals or groups who want to explore "off the beaten track" Spain.

WHY HAVE A GUIDE - Current official mapping available in Spain is an improvement over earlier editions, but the latest maps still contain many inaccuracies and omissions.  This often makes navigation extremely complex for anyone not familiar with the local area.

Couple this difficulty with the fact that it is necessary to have personal transport to reach the majority of the starting points and you begin to appreciate the true value of our assistance.  There are other significant advantages of having a local walking guide too; these include the effects of the local weather conditions, local topographical knowledge, road closures, watering holes, features of interest and the selection of the most suitable routes to meet your personal requirements.  Your guides are able to discuss with you your walking capability and to lead you to wonderful, off the beaten places, but always within your ability and without the fear of ever getting lost.

The Scope for Walking on the Costa Blanca
The mountains of the Costa Blanca region of Spain provide a splendid walking playground
for both the serious and the more leisurely walker.

The pine laced scenery is truly superb, sometimes causing a sharp intake of breath in admiration or giving a feeling of euphoria thanks to the pleasant, historic and colourful surroundings, enveloped by a mantle of tranquility.

The region has it´s softer images too. Remote narrow winding lanes leading to the sad ruins of once thriving farms. These in days gone by grew crops of olives or almonds, but now the untended trees stand like sentinels along the abandoned terraces, still giving a brave show of blossom in the spring time. Tiny green paths will also be found, meandering a seemingly aimless way through groves of orange, lemon and cherry trees, whilst in truth pointing the walker towards the next sleepy village. Both the autumn and spring wild flower displays by nature are an especial joy to behold.

Reminders of days passed are all around. Impressive Mozarabic mule trails can be seen. Such trails zigzag their way distinctively up and down the mountains and across the valleys, making the well engineered trading arteries of long ago stand in stark contrast to the natural scatter of the boulder strewn slopes or rocky river beds. Old mills can be discovered, which were either wind or water powered; the former were frequently built in pairs or small groups. Also waiting to be found are neveras or ice pits, amazingly large and well insulated in order to preserve their precious contents from the Spanish sunshine. Every farm once possessed an era or thrashing floor near the farmhouse; here the family mule was encouraged to trudge in circles dragging the carefully hewn limestone roller across the wheat harvest. These near perfect shaped rollers are easily spotted close to the sad relics of former homes.

The coastal walks have much to offer the lover of salty air and seagull cries. Their rewards will usually include steep and narrow ravines dipping dramatically into the sea, sometimes with a small sandy beach to complete the scene, Caves are commonplace and a few may be explored at length without getting your walking boots wet. The opportunities for rocky scrambling are there for the taking and the picnic choices within sight and sound of the waves are endless.

Truly there is something for every class and style of walker in the this area. Whether you are seeking to scramble along wild boar trails to lofty summits, wander at a more relaxed pace along tree lined lanes through the welcoming countryside or simply try for something in between, you will be sure to enjoy doing it here in the Costa Blanca.

Your Guides

Spanish Guided Walks' guides live on the Costa Blanca and are well acquainted with its topography and climate. Dixie has been leading groups both large and small in the area for 9 seasons and has amassed a wealth of experience and knowledge, covering some 5,000 miles and climbing the equivalent of Everest 30 times in the process. John has been a walker all his life and has lived in the area for 2 years. Since leaving the RAF, his feet have been firmly planted on the ground!. Both of your guides are keenly interested in mapwork and the creation of new routes to explore the lesser known corners of the Costa Blanca countryside and mountains.Spanish Guided Walks takes safety very seriously and its guides carry emergency equipment and are first aid trained.
